Search Inside Documents?

Does MediaBin have the ability to search the *contents* of files, especially PDF or Word documents?

We have a request from another department for such an ability.

Mediabin 4.6.x allows searching "Assets" ,"Folders" or both using "Find" tab/button .It basically searches the "Folder Origin" based on groups criterion "Eg. All metadata" and users can do Quick Search/full-text searches .

Users can currently do text-based search (pdf,doc,ppt) ,predicate CONTAINS WORD and combo search words, e.g., logical operator OR AND searches .

Also MB Quick Search also allows end-users to conduct full-text searches on a limited set of text metadata fields too as this greatly speeds up the search process.

MediaBin will only search the metadata fields user selects —rather than searching all defined metadata fields—and will look for the specific word or phrase, rather than substrings.

I'm not certain we're talking about the same thing, so let me clarify, just in case...

FOR EXAMPLE:

Say I upload a Word document called "Test Search Me.doc" and that document's contents are "LOLcatz are annoying, I wish they would disband."

If MediaBin searches only metadata, then searching for...

Any Text CONTAINS "LOLcatz"

...would not return anything (zero results).

But if MediaBin can search the contents of an individial file (such as the Mac OS X Spotlight feature does), then the same search would return the "Test Search Me.doc" document (as it contains "LOLCatz" inside it).

Does MediaBin have the ability to do this with PDFs, Word files, or both?

Unfortunately the simple answer to the question is "no". However if you purchase Metatagger MediaBin can use that to extract a summary of the content which then is searchable.

This is an old post, but just wanted to circle back on this and see if searching inside documents like word doc or pdf or ppt files is possible now or supported by the newer versions of MediaBin or TeamSite Search.

Yes, it is possible now with the integration of IDOL; VMB 7.x and higher versions support searching Office documents, PDFs and Videos.
