How do I configure a delivery stage?

Hi there,

I have two VMs, VM A hosts the Management Server, VM B is greenfield, only CDS is installed. I'd like to use B as delivery stage.

When I log into the configuration console on host A, I can use "Create Stage" and "Create Delivery Stage". Since I have CDS already installed on host B, I used "Create Stage".
But how do I proceed from there on? How do I create the connection between host A and B? Via the context menu for the created stage I can choose "Create CDS", but I already installed CDS on B, so I hesitate to finish this wizard. I think I don't see the wood for the trees.

I appreciate every help or advice.

You only have binaries installed for CDS on VM B. It doesn't actually point to any DB or Has any connection to CMS.

You should have created a Config Agent on the VM B after you installed the CDS. Then Choose option "Create Delivery Stage" this will then ask for location of your Delivery Config Agent.

thanks for your reply. I looked into the Planning and Installation Guide, the Administration Guide and the Content Delivery SDK Guide and unfortunately I wasn't able to find a section which describes the process of installing a Configuration Agent in detail.

I found one statement which led me think the Configuration Agent is installed by the CDS installer, but apparently this is not the case.

The information I have is, I have to use the command line tools one the delivery stage host to create a connected or disconnected Configuration Agent. There is no other way, right?
Using the command line tool requires me to provide hostname and portnumber, this should be the host and portnumber of the Management Server, so something like host-a:27110?

Also is the required username and passwort meant to be username and passwort of a management server user, so if the command line tool generates the error: "Ensure that the server is running and the host, port, username and password information are correct" and management server is running, and username and password are correct, I assume I am using the wrong port or there is some firewall issue and I should use a disconnected configuration agent.

Hi Jared,

The CDS installer will provide an option to create a config agent on the machine. In addition you can use the command line tools cfgaction or configp. You are correct about the host:port is for the management server (VCM/WEM Server) and the userid/password is the VCM/WEM admin user you specified when you installed the CMS bits.

There is additional information in the configconsole online help –http://a:27110/configconsole

Hi Bill,

thanks for your answer, the installer does not provide an option to create a configuration agent, atleast I didn't see any option for that. I figured it out with the command line tools and now I have a configured delivey stage.

Now, I am running into problems with publishing my site. The endpoint is suspended because tables are missing on the delivery stage. Is there any best practice to migrate tables from the management stage database to the delivery stage database? Right now I check the endpoint information to know which table causes the problem and then create the table on the delivery stage. This is quite time consuming.

I'm also wondering if this is the normal behaviour, since the published site doesn't contain any custom Content Type items, just simple text fields.

Hi Jared,

If you have any CTDs that use your tables then this is standard behavior and it is expected that you will create the same CTD tables in the mgmt and delivery stage databases. If these are extensible attributes that use our system tables then that should not be happening and you should go ahead and open a ticket with customer support with that information.
