Attaching a progid to a custom button

By editing the worksite database tables I am able to add a custom button of my own to the edit profile form. However I cannot link the button to my ICommand implementation. I entered the PROGID of my custom function but when I click my custom button, nothing happens. Is there any way to edit the registry to trigger my custom function when the button is clicked?

I realize I can hijack an existing button but this will cause that button to be used up for my function and not available for it's original usage.
