replacing datacapture.cfg

we have datacapture.cfg file in teamsite.in live site we have components with 3 fields, Appearance xsl/Appearance XML and content XML. can we divide the xml and validations in live site comonent just like we do with html and javascript. I mean i would write the xml in content xml and just include a JS file somewhere in the datum and write all the validation code in that Javascript file.
anyone has any idea about this.

Hi

Appearance XSL will be the file that you can use for all validation or implementing JS. To do this you have two options either write JS in xsl or include it at page level externally.

What ever is easy for you ? My suggestion is to use it externally.

May be i am not getting you,kindly elaborate these points :

Are you getting Data in Content XML using DCR or something else?
Are you trying to implement these validation at the time when you place the component on the page ?
In Content XML where you want to place the validation ?
If you are using DCR Datum Type then,you have to include the js at datacapture.cfg to validate the data at the time content contributor enters it.

Yes I am getting the data in content XML using DCR

Well no.I want to add the validations for the user from the browser. If you can also let me know the validation process when we place the component on the page.

I do not want to mix data with valiation.so i just want to add the function call in content XML.

you can not add a js functiona call in Content XML as per my understanding because content xml is an pure xml file having nodes ,it doesn't have any event like onload() etc where you can add or call your js function.

If you have created datacapture.cfg for some datatype,then you already know the procedure of using script for validating the data at new form entry else kindly read the docs.

Now,if you want to validate the data coming from a dcr and loading in component XSL, then implement JS at Apperance XSL, and pass that data to that JS function before you select that from content xml using element
ELEMENT :xsl:value-of select=""

IN LS we do have certaing restriction ,so we have to take care while we decide the architecture and functionality of a particular component.We must be clear what we desire,then we have to analyse that with present component developing facility or features, how we can achevie that ?
