Teamsite <select> label problem

hey, so I have a drop-down combo-box in a datacapture.cfg whose items gets populated from a xml file. So there is a select tag in it..such as

etc.,

Now i need to assign a variable the value of the label i.e. "Big Brother"... Its easy to get the value by just saying
$myvalue = iwpt_dcr_value(x.y.leftnav) .. It gives me bigbrother. But I actually want the label. Any clues to get it done..

Tried javascript too.. but no luck with it.. can anyone help if there is a teamsite function to do . thanks in advance..
