Creating new branch from scratch - instructions?

Hi,

I need to create a new branch within TeamSite. I'd like it to model an existing branch that was created by someone else. If I do a 'copy to' to create an exact copy of the existing branch, will I be able to then modify this new branch? Will the new branch be linked in any way to the existing branch?

Also, are there any white papers or tutorials out there that could instruct me on how to fully develop a new branch?

'copy to' doesn't work like that (at least not in 6.7.1 sp1 and earlier, I haven't played with 6.7.2 much but would wager it's the same there as well). You have to go through the normal procedures of creating a Branch as described in the installation guide. You should read the manuals and I would definite suggest taking a training class.

You could also do something with CLTs to create a new branch but that probably is a bit over your head at this point. I would say stick with the procedure outlined in the installation guide.

Also branches are pretty much independent of each other.

FYI, for future posts make sure you include your TS environment and server OS.

Step1: Create a skeleton of a branch either by using iwmkbr CLT or from the gui go to file->new branch.
Step2: Assign appropriate group and owner for the branch
Step3: Create workarea inside the branch.
Step4: Repeat step2
Step3: If you want to have the same copy of the content that is already present in some other branch you can use "copy to" command to copy the content between branches.

I'm assuming you are on TS 6.7 or higher

First, you need to decide on few things before you actually create a branch:
1. What should be the locking behavior of new branch?
2. Who will be the owner of branch?
3. Which all users will have access to branch and under which role?

The best way is to login to TeamSite ContentCenter with admin privileges and use GUI to create the branch. At the time of creation you will provide the locking behavior and owner of branhc. After branch is created you can set users and roles for the branch.

I would also suggest you to go through TeamSite manuals to clearly understand each of above steps.
