Deployment to Oracle View

Icebreaker

Hi There,

We are using TeamSite 6.5 SP3 and OD 6.1.0.

We have a reqiurement to DataDeploy to Oracle View. Does DataDeploy module can support deploying to Oracle View?

Kindly advice.

Regards,

RDB "Views" are just named and stored SQL Select Statements. Use DataDeploy to modify underlying Tables and your View will dutifully reflect it

Thanks for your reply.

If I have a created a view based on one single table, can I update the view via DD?

Remember I will not have any kind of previliege on the table to insert / update / modify the table using DD.

You might want to check the following link out to understand what Boris mentioned:

Hi Jay,

You can definitely update a VIEW by DD. Rows can be inserted into, updated in, or deleted from a base table using a view.

Please try the following link:

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies.

On the Oracle front, I am aware that I can SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE on a VIEW.

My worry is doing the above using DataDeploy.

In the DataDeploy DTD, the database element is defined as:

table — names a destination table in the db attribute.
Value can be any user-defined table name surrounded by double quotes, for
example, "table1".
Is required except with user-defined database schemas.

table-view — specifies whether to create a view automatically during deployment.
Value can be "yes" or "no". Default is "no".
DataDeploy creates virtualization views if the table-view attribute in the
database section of the deltagen deployment is set to "yes".

There is no option for 'VIEW' here.

Also in the DBSchema DataDeploy DTD, the group element is defined as:

dynamic-repl-range (no | yes) #REQUIRED #internal
skip-group-if-null (no | yes) "no" #IMPLIED

There is no option to specific the VIEW.

If someone has any idea of implementing the updation to VIEW, kindly share with me.

Thanks in Advance.

There is no option to specific the VIEW...

I thought I was clear. "Views" do not exist as a collection of persistent Entities. You do not really modify a View, even
with SQL dialects that allow DML operations on Views (not all of them do!)

End of day you still have to modify underlying Table(s), directly or through Views, SPs, etc. If you (your processes) do not
have required DB privileges, View will not help. If you do, use Tables in your DD configurations.
