Mac Resource Fork?
CalvinFold
Wondering if any other users had a better solution to this:
MediaBin, residing on a Windows server, strips the resource fork of all Mac files. So double-click of a donwloaded file doesn't always work reliably, embedded previews are missing, and sometimes MediaBin even does odd renaming things to files.
I broke down and wrote a program (Clorox File Repair...version 2 is available as freeware) that fixes these files after they are downloaded--a resource fork restorer--but this seems a bit brute-force.
Aside from wrapping every individual asset or group of assets in a SIT archive, is there a way to fix this (AppleTalk stack on the server maybe?), or does Interwoven plan to properly address this?

MediaBin does preserve the Mac resources and many customers use this functionality. If it is not working for you, then it is probably the case that the set-up you have configured has stripped the Mac resources before the MediaBin server gets a crack at the file. The most likely culprit would be the transfer folder.
If you work with support they should be able to help you modify your configuration to preserve the resource forks. Once ingested, MediaBin stores the resource data separately and reunites it with the file on output.

Thanks! I'm going to pass this on to our own IS/IT and Interwoven contacts and try a third time to get them to look more closely at this.
Last time around they were telling us we simply had to upload everything compressed and that was the limit of "support" for Mac resource forks (i.e. had to stay in sit, zip, or hqx in MediaBin). So your answer is new knowledge to us.

Lyman,
Every time HP Support (who handles our support contract) contacts Interwoven support, we keep getting "MediaBin doesn't support the Resource Fork because it's file name starts with a period" and somesuch.
Is there a way to get some help directly through the Server Team or at least escalated beyond the regular support channels? Getting a bit frustrated...
