Getting IW_WORKAREA in a 'called' .ipl

My DCT has some .js code that calls an .ipl.

In this .ipl, I need to know which WORKAREA I'm in.

I've been reading the docs and looking up sample code but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Here's the .js code:

IWDatacapture.callServer("http://apwcms/iw-bin/pge_custom/testing.ipl");

in testing.ipl, I'm simply trying to echo back this variable:

my $workarea_path = $ENV{IW_WORKAREA};

It's blank every time.

Am I supposed to pass the WORKAREA in through the callServer as a param or something?

Yes you should pass the workarea as a param - and if you look through the FormAPI manual you should be able to find how to retrieve that information so that you can pass it.

hey guys im trying to do something similar per one of the other threads, setting EAs via callserver - the question is how to invoke the "iwextattr" command in the IPL - my below code isnt working, but we use it all the time in our tpls

Your TPL calls will not work (iwpt_*), you will need to pass that to the callserver.

Now be advised there are some timing issues with what you want to do. If this is a new DCR, you cannot set EAs until the save has completed. Being an async call, this will cause problems if I hit finish.

ahhh ok sorry - i wasnt sure i could use them in the ipl, was trying.

so if i pass over all the variables i need from the formapi into the callserver, i should still be able to invoke the iwextattr command w/ the same syntax?

Yes that *should* work. The issue about setting EAs on a new DCR still exists. That may be tricky to solve.

FYI: This can be more cleanly written as:

system(qq($iw_home/bin/iwextattr -s "TeamSite/Metadata/html_code_path=$output_file" "$dcrname"));

The use of qq() allows you to use double-quotes without back-slashes in front of them - easier to read, less likely to contain a typo that could take hours to find...

hey guys - few more questions

1) now it tags all our DCRs as modified by "SYSTEM" which isnt good - i understand its doing this due to use running the CLT to set the EAs. whats the fix for this? resetting the modified by at the end of the call server also? that seems like a bit of a pain...

2) like nipper said sometime the save behaviour works weird - should i add a timer or delay or something?

im invoking the set EAs on the save event everytime, but after i set the DCR name. sometimes it still doesnt seem to finish/work properly, other times it does.

On the Server side you can try to impersonate DCR Editor through iw_cgi_wrapper. Like this:
callServer("/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/setEAs.ipl",....)

Note that you do not need all these "server" prefixes before iw-bin, use the syntax above verbatim.
(I know it's the syntax used in FormAPI Manual samples. Ignore them)

Please note that IWDCRInfo.setDCRName() is an asynchronous call, you may want to re-synchronise it and check the result.
Take a look at [post=98599]this[/post] sample. Note that your case differs, sample is to illustrate an approach, syntax etc.

Both of those of these can easily be fixed by doing this step in a workflow rather than in FormAPI.
