What does this section of code do ? Is "Debugging" a java class and "getDebugOptions" its method ? Can anyone pls explain how does this Generator work ? I can not figure out from manual.

Generator is a way to insert data as a peer node. The code is executed and parameters are passed in. The result is appended as a peer node. This is used to dynamically alter the contents of a Datum.

At design time, you can use Generator to populate datums with data using a PropertyContext, this is a way to insert data as a peer node. The code is executed and parameters are passed in, the result is appended as a peer node. This is useful in dynamically altering the contents of a Datum.

External components extend this paradigm with dynamic behavior through Java objects. Each external component is tied to one or more Java classes that are instantiated and executed at runtime to provide dynamic data as input to the XSL engine. Examples of external components include RSS and the AJAX-based File Explorer.

So Generator is an element of external component to use dynamically change the values of a Datum type.

When the code is executed (which is a java class), is the output an XML document with as root tag ? Does this XML document replace Generator in the content XML ? So is it just like Inline element, which, upon execution, is replaced by an XML document with root element as Substitution ?

This code is taken from manual.

According to this code, External is the outer most element next to Data element in Content XML document. So are Controller and Generator subelements of External ? Or can they exist independent from External element ? In the sample code, I referred to in earlier post, there is no External element. If, content XML is working without External element is this code, then why is External element required ?

External element does not have any attribute for java class like Generator, then how does it execute a java class ?
So this statement "Each external component is tied to one or more java classes that are instantiated......." refer to the java classes of Generator, Prefix and Controller or Is External tied to different Java classes than these ones ?

A content contributor can populate datums by editing a component. Thats what Generator is doing, so why do we need Generator ? I apologize, if I am not getting something basic. I am always confused with this External, Controller and Generator.

Object element refers to some java class, Does this make component dynamic ? How is Object different from Controller, Ecxternal and Generator ?
