Allowable markup question

clorentzen

Hi... I'm a front-end developer working with a client using Interwoven as their CMS. Here's my question: does Interwoven support putting classes on the tag? I often use this technique so that CSS can control the "selected" state of the top navigation items. It would require the class on the tag changing for each presented page, based on which section of the site it lives in. For example, ...

A related technique is an additional class on the to control the page's color scheme. This would be something the page author/editor would need to be able to select, depending on the color scheme they want. For example, ...

So, combined, the result would be

Does Interwoven support this sort of technique for page templates? (Or by contrast, would it inhibit the use of such a technique?)

Thanks very much!

Does Interwoven support this sort of technique...

TemSite supports generation of any markup whatever. It's been a commonplace for years to use CSS styling.

The actual mechanisms of allocating CSS Selectors depend on your requirements and can range from fully automatic
to fully manual with everything in between. With the built-in CGI/Servlet support Contributors' GUI is limited by Business
imagination, Developers expertise and (almost)nothing else.

it looks like my message had code examples cut out... Just to clarify, I was referring to the *body* tag of the html document, so a situation like:

*body class="news"*

or

*body class="red"*

or, the combined effect

*body class="news red"*

Thanks.

For inserting XML/XHTML/HTML code within your posts - you need to manually insert:
...
delimiters in your post - so you would get:

.

As Boris already indicated - you can do pretty much whatever you want - however, the question you are asking requires more information. For instance - are we talking about HTML pages that are generated in TeamSite from TeamSite FormsPublisher DCRs? Hopefully the answer is "yes". In that case - you need to get involved with the presentation templates (PTs) or XSLTs used to take the XML stored in the DCRs and generate the desired HTML output. For that, I suggest getting a copy of the FormsPublisher Developers Guide and also looking at the information available at http://your-ts-server/iw/help/tst/pt (if you're using PTs) or googling XSLT information from the web at large.

Hope that helps. If not - getting Interwoven FormsPublisher training would be the next thing to look into.

Thanks for your replies. Ghoti, in answer to your question, I'm not sure. I have very limited contact with the actual developer's on the client's side, and am not sure how they are constructing/building the pages. I only know that I was advised that they can't place a class attribute on the body tag, which struck me as odd... Which is why I wanted to investigate it a bit.

Thanks again.
