moving iw-store
reeturaj
We are moving the iw-store from one win2k server running Teamsite 5.5.2 to another win2k server running Teamsite 5.5.2. There will be similar users and groups in both servers.
Article 44697, scenario 3, describes a similar situation regarding users and groups. Will the acl's automatically change once we update the table as described in scenario 3.

As I understand the question (and Nikko's article), yes, the ACLs in the TeamSite file system will reflect the SIDs of the new users.

I created the same users and groups in the second machine and used iwidupdate. The sid's in the output file generated by iwidupdate, got updated when I checked it again, but the acl's in the file system did not recognize the groups.
Appreciate your feedback

What is the proper procedure for moving a backing store from one W2K machine to another? I can't seem to find consistent information in all the documentation.
Thank you.

I think you'll need to repeat the same process from scenario 3 for the groups, changing the -u flag to a -g.
Lucas, the correct procedure is referenced in article 44697 on the support site KB. This article shows how to change the permissions in the backing store after moving. Prior to doing this, you would:
1. Freeze the source TS server
2. Back up the backing store to be moved
3. Unfreeze the source
4. Restore the backing store image to its new location
5. Follow the steps in article 44697 to fix permissions if needed
6. Test the new backing store.
7. Delete the old backing store.
Bear in mind that if the source and target machines are on the same domain, then step 5 is pretty minimal. Usually the only non-domain user account involved is the machine-local Administrator and Administrators group. These should be re-mapped to the new machine's respective user and group.

When you say "Restore the backing store image to its new location", what exactly does that mean? Also I am moving to a completely new TS machine, so the domain is going to be different. I assume I can take care of the Administrator re-mappings with iwidmap???
Thanks for your expertise on this one...

What that means depends on your backup software. When you do a restore of a backup set, you can normally choose either to restore to the same location as the backup was made from or a new location entirely. To safely copy a backing store to a new server, you'd use the latter option, and copy it to a shared path on the new server.
Just because you're moving to a new server doesn't mean the 2 servers are in different domains. Your work is reduced if they are in fact in the same domain. If they are stand-alone non-domain members (workgroup servers), then bear in mind that a) you'll have to remap _all_ the user and group accounts, and b) this is not a supported configuration for a teamsite server as per the admin manual.
