Checking whether a text box is empty or not

I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of how to check whether a PageLink text box is empty or not in the component xsl.

I have:

xsl:when test="Datum[@Name='Headline Link'] = ' ' "

but this doesn't seem to work.

maybe you try using the string-length function?
