How long to transfer a massive backing store?

Hi folks,
we are in the very early stages of a project to upgrade our installation of TeamSite from 6.5 to 6.7. The project will also take us from Solaris to Linux.
Unfortunately we have a massive backing store (over 400GB) and I have a feeling it's going to take days or even weeks just for the import alone (using iwmigrate).

Yes I did say 400GB !!

Would you:
a) Sort out this backing store before doing anything else (like reduce it big time),
b) Create the new platform, install TS 6.7, IWmigrate the content store as is and then over time, and while running old and new installations in parallel, streamline the content,
c) Open a bottle?

OK so the big question is, how long do you reckon to import this content store using IWmigrate (ok I know there are loads of factors to consider that are beyond this thread just now).

editions on each branch.Regardless, its something that must be done, so don't try short-cuts - follow through the entire process carefully, making notes, so that each subsequent migration can go faster - and hopefully become more automated so that you don't have to sit there watching bits go flying by all day.
