Hi!When I login to TS and look at the file , The icon indicates the file is unlocked. However, when I try to edit them, the system changes their status from unlocked to locked, and I am prevented from changing or editing them in any way and The locked status remains same. When I check properties it appear to be set to "Locked by launching edit." I guess file get locked when other user had already do any edit..as "Locked by launching edit." shown on his ID.So how can I prevent from locking the file and keep unlocked after editing of file by other user. As always ...any inputs will be gr8 help !!Regards !VinayTS 6.5.0 SP3, OD 6.1.1
Hi Vinay,There is a locking mechanism which is being used on your system due to which the file gets locked on its own as soon as you click on associated Edit link of the file.As sson as you edit your part, you also need to Submit the file in order to get the lock released so that it would be saved with your changes over STAGING area and is available for other users to edit.HTH
In 6.7.2 I believe the behavior was changed such that locks only get placed on files when they are actually modified - not when they are initially viewed by clicking Edit. However, for previous systems, the user who locked the file by clicking Edit may also select Actions > Unlock to unlock the file without requiring that they submit the file.If the user in question is an Administrator or Master - they can unlock the file even if someone else has it locked.
Hi Kaalraa, You spoke about the locking mechanism that we have in Teamsite. Can you please tell me where is it ? I am facing one issue, where if some one edits a file, that file wont be in lock unless it is saved.
Hi Ghoti ,
The file locking mechanism that we have in Teamsite. Can you please tell me where is it ? I am facing one issue, where if some one edits a file, that file wont be in lock unless it is saved. I am using TS 7.4
You're asking me for a response to a thread from 2008?

You either need to do more reading or provide more explicit detail of what you are trying to find out.
What do you mean by "where is" "the file locking mechanism"?
What kind of file is being edited?
What is the "locking model" of the branch on which the file exists?
If need be, the users can explicitly lock the file before editing.
It's been a while since I've dealt with this, but you might also check through all the options in iw.cfg and/or perhaps within the customer_src/etc/conf/customer to see if there is a way to get the "old" behavior of lock-on-editing.
The issue is : 'Document is not getting locked in edit mode' ; explaining the same : If a user is editing a document (DCR) , that document is not getting locked. While one user edits the document, some other user can also open it and then edit it at the same time, which is not right.
Now, please correct me if i am wrong here. if a document(dcr) is edited in Teamsite, it will be in locked state so that no one else can edit it unless you submit it to staging
But in my case, the document is not getting locked in edit mode, it only gets locked when it is saved.
Here are my findings till now,
i did not get any lead from 'customer_src/etc/conf/customer.xml' file
I have checked the iw.cfg file 'main_lock_model=submit_lock' and
'allow_unlocked_file_upload=null' (if it is of any lead)
The lock in branch is also : submit_lock
If you're talking about DCRs - with the proper EAs on them so that they are treated as DCRs by the system - then yes, they should be locked when they are brought up for editing, without needing to be saved (or even modified) first.
If that is not happening, then it is definitely a case for Support.
True.
Please give me some leads in this case. Where and what can i check ?
As i stated before, iw.cfg file i have checked and the lock attribute in that file is 'submit_lock'.
Should i try putting 'mandatory_write_lock' instead of 'submit_lock' in it ? if not, where else can i try to work on this issue.
If what I'm understanding you to be saying is correct - I don't think there is anywhere to look by yourself - this would have to be handled by Support / Engineering (if such exists for TeamSite anymore)
