HTML generation from .page

There is an OOB workflow that generates HTML or ASP pages from .page. I would like to create my own URL task to perform this action as I need to perform some custom validation before the generation and modify the call back action also. Does anybody knows where I can get information as to what this task does and what XSL its calling to transform the .page file to an HTML page.

Please if somebody could provide details for this task.
