Bulk editing Metadata problem
Stu_english
Hello,
We've found an aspect of the bulk edit metadata feature that has caused us some problems: the Windows client works differently than the Web client in a way that makes it too easy to delete metadata values unintentionally. In the Windows client, the bulk edit metadata function clears the values from any fields that are not selected. So, if you have several fields filled in, and you select an additional field by itself to fill in, and deselect the rest of the fields that you don't want to change, the de-selected fields are cleared of their values. In the Web client, the change only affects the selected field, and does not change the remaining fields that are not selected.
The documentation does not clearly specify this difference in functionality, which is a correction that should be made.
As a result of this inconsistency, we have several directories in MediaBin where we need to roll back all the assets in each directory to a prior metadata revision level. We've found a way to do this asset by asset, but there are far too many to correct to do this singly. Is there a way to roll a group of assets back to a prior set of metadata values all at once?
Thanks for the help,
Stu English

Unfortunately in MediaBin the bulk operation is aggregated on the client side so there is no monolithic rollback. On the other hand with some help from support one might be able to figure out how to affect the necessary files by comparing modified date.
I have brought the initial problem to the attention of the client team.

Just as an aside, we have found that the Mac and PC "fat clients" are both incredibly awkward to use for bulk metadata edits compared to the web client, you might consider that for a process change.
We only use the Mac fat client for uploads (to preserve MacBinary file structures) and the PC fat client for admin needs and bulk asset re-organization.
Annoys us to use this mixed approach, but it has turned out to make things run smoother and with less headaches.
