file creation date

How do I figure out when a file was first created? I've tried...
$date = `/opt/iw-home/bin/iwattrib $dcrvpath crdate`;
...but it changes as I modify the file. This seems pretty lame, because crdate and moddate are giving me the same values, and they both change when I modify a file. What's the point of having them both? Am I missing something?

I think that, to work around some problem or another, Templating is deleting the old DCR and then writing a new DCR in its place. So he creation date for the file is changed.

Perhaps you can get the information you want by looking at the file history, e.g. via the iwrlog CLT.
