What is dialog-param for in dialog ?

What names can be used in dialog-param field ? Does this field name has to be in relation to the ones in DCT ? Or we can use any arbitrary name for this field ?

What does dialog-input and dialog-output do ? The field-ref name in dialog-input and dialog-output , does it connect to that particular field ? What fields need to be connected to the mediabin in order to retrieve an image from mediabin ?
Can it be any number of fields ?

Is dialog-input and dialog-output both are compulsory fields or either one can be used ?

Pls explain this
