Searching in the TS DCR field

Hi,
I have a requirement to verify a DCR field on save of DCR. This has to happen real time, on all present DCR. One solution would be, to use TS search and index that field and fire a query to verify that field. But, here I will create a dependency of DCR creation on TS Search. In future, if there is any problem with Search service, it will also fail the TS content creation.
Is there any better way that some one can direct me to?

Hi,

As far as my understanding , You can write some perl script to verify all existing DCR particular field and if you want to change or process on that field u can do it and save that DCR.

For New DCR u can add that operation in the onSave event handler.

There is a field **** in my DCT. On save of new DCR, I have to verify that no other DCR in the workarea has the same value given by the user in the field ****.

I thought of that solution, but in that case, on every save of DCR, I will have to loop through all the available DCR on TS and that will be very heavy operation taking in to consideration of hundreds of contents. So, I was looking for some efficient method, like keeping this field value as metadata and any tool to search that. I know this is doable with TS Search. But, right now I am not getting any other good way than TS search.

Let's say that you are trying to save a DCR at templatedata/Category/Datatype/data/****.xml and if that DCR already exists then TS will warn you for sure -- perhaps a little bit more than that. Would that not suffice?

Writing some script to check if that file exists and if it did then what ....? You are probably going to alert the user -- which is what TS is already doing. I am just wondering why re-invent the wheel? Perhaps you have some requirement that is driving that.

Can you autoname the DCR and incorporate the that field into the name ? That is an easy way to check that the DCR field is unique.

Another thought is to auto generate that field instead of having the user generate it.

Another solution would be to auto generate a unique value in the field for the user. I don't know why you'd make the user enter a unique value inside a teamsite template form. The other solution would be to keep a record of values already used in a nice list somewhere (database or filesystem) and do a callserver onsave event that validates the user input against the list which should be a lot easier than checking every dcr. if it's valid then the process should update the list with the new value added.
