Cannot edit Site Map nodes

I have just configured a TeamSite/SitePublisher environment. I have created a branch.workarea, and created a corresponding SP site. i can select the top level sites, but when I try to click on the primary node, or any children nodes, nothing happens. SO i have no way of changing the site maps. I can't even drill down through the component guide site.

ANyone have any ideas? Could it be realted to using IE7?
