cancel deployment

I have a queue of deployments on my OD UI.
One deployment is taking too long. Usually it takes only one second. Currently its there for 40 minutes. When I click on this deployment, in the details window target host and other details show up. Here "cancel deployment" tab is greyed out. why is that ? how to cancel this deployment ?

you pretty much cannot. Cancel deployment seldom works. It will likely require a restart of the OD server (and possibly the receiver as well). Not the hardware but the service

how and when to use "cancel deployment" ?

If I stop the OD service, it will stop many deployments going on at the same time. So how can I stop only one deployment which is going on longer than usual ?

If you read the manuals (I don't remember which one off-hand) there is somewhere a description of which precise states a deployment can be in that 'Cancel' will work - it will not work for all other states. I believe this is something they've been working on improving in the last several releases, but I don't believe it's gotten [yet] to the point where you can cancel any deployment in any state.

Yea, esp when the receiver is having trouble, that is often a case when a deployment hangs. That is a case when the receiver will not be able to respond to a cancel request.
