Livesite | Storing Data in Application Scope

karan_v_arora

I have some website level data that needs to be available throughout the application. One option is to store it in session scope. But in this case i will have to fetch this data from DB every time a user session gets created.

Is there a way in which i can save this data in application scope which is always available whenever a user session gets created.

Thanks,
Karan.

If you have a single server instance, then a simple way is just to use a static variable in a Java class, for example:
  public static Map CACHE = Collections.synchronizedMap(new HashMap());

But a somewhat cleaner way would be to use the context exposed by RequestContext.getRequest(), e.g.:
  RequestContext livesiteRc = ...;
  ServletContext sc = livesiteRc.getRequest().getSession().getServletContext();
  // then...
  sc.setAttribute("my_cache_key", myObject);
  // or...
  Object myObject = sc.getAttribute("my_cache_key");

Not sure if getting the HttpSession is the only way to get the ServletContext... if you don't already have a session then creating one is undesirable, but I don't know offhand how to do it otherwise. Surely there's a way though.
