Using line breaks in the Site Map

We have a site that uses the ootb vertical JavaScript flyout nav component. Our Site Map has an entry that's pretty long, and when the site is deployed, the navigation overlaps the content, even though the components don't overlap in the page template. I tried editing the .css file so that text wrapping is allowed, but all lines were collapsed and wrapped so the nav ended up being really narrow. I changed it back and after doing some research, I found that I should be able to use a line break tag (br/) to force that one item to wrap. I added the br/ tag to the site map node and published the site map. Now the br/ tag appears in the navigation; the line break isn't being recognized.

Does anyone know how to get text to wrap for a single item in the vertical nav?

Just a guess - but if it's like other such things - you might have to replace <br /> with <br /> or <![CDATA[<br />]]> (the CDATA tag might be wrapped around the entire entry)

Thanks for the suggestions, but unfortunately the BR tag still appears in the nav after it's deployed even with using the entities (the CDATA made everything before the ]]> disappear). The weird thing is that it works in the Site Map - it's when it's published that it isn't recognized. I've asked the site owner to either change the page layout or shorten the text for that nav item.
