metadata created using MetaTagger

I have not used metatagger, so I have this basic question.

There are two types of metadata, internal metadata and external metadata. Internal metadata is attached to file. So when we use metatagger, is the metadata attached to the file or is it created in separate file and then associated to the data file ?

metatagger does not change any of the native metadata (internal) on a given file. when metatagger generates metadata it's usually in a seperate file in an xml format.
