Reverse Deploy
prasad54
Hi
I am performing Reverse deployment for pulling files from production to staging environment using a manually developed workflow. i am able to do this successfully, but my other requirement is while pulling files from production i need to display an error message if user tries to pull the files size greater than 30MB. How do i do this ?in normal deployment i will prepare the filelist and check the file size, but here for Reverse Deployment i have just changed in deployment config xml like instead of source i have put Reverse source, instead of target i have put Reverse target. how can i check the file size in this reverse deployment.? can this be a doable task?
can anyone help me out in this regard?
Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if this can help you .....
You can create a simple perl script which will execute on the target and find out the file size for you.
once you get the file sice manupulate your file list ......
#$f for file
#search $f // do recursive
size=`wc -c <"$f"`

Thanks Vinay for your reply..
do you want me to run DNR deployment? here the problem is i am providing an option to choose the target directroy from where you want to pull the files from in the work flow form. This target directory i am passing to deployment script dynamically.
in normal deployment i can prepare the fileList using task->getFiles method and find out the file size. but here how can i prepare the fileList and find out the files size ?
anyways i will try your idea and let you know...
can anyone have any other idea than this. please share with me.
Thanks

Off the top-o-my-head - you'd have to do two deployments - one simulated, to get the file sizes of the proposed reverse deployment; one real, to bring over the files - you might need three deployments actually:
Again, this is just "thinking out loud" - I'll leave it to you to figure out if this suits your needs and how to do the actual implementation.

Thank you very much guys for your reply.
Ghoti, i cannot ask the client to run 3 deployments for this requirement.
It seems a not doable task with single deployment.
I shall let you know if i find anyway to achive this.
Thanks again for your reply.
