New Form Entry - Create sub folder on submission

Hello.

This is my first attempt at a custom solution in Teamsite, so if I seem to be missing some obvious concept, that's why.

What I'm looking for is this:

During the New Form Creation, the user uploads .pdf files.

We want to create a new folder to store these files in, based on the date that they were uploaded.

I don't so much need code samples as I do need some pointers on where to execute this.

Right now, I'm guessing that I'll need to do this in the associated .js file. But what I'm not sure about is if it's better this way, or if I should call a perl script, or what.

The coding is fairly easy. WHERE to put the code is another issue altogether.

This is pretty common. Typically it is done on save (say you calculate the DCR path as /data/somedir/blah.xml). You would have JS execute a callserver request (JS runs on the client, the callserver (Perl) runs on the TS server). It checks to see if the directories need to be created and does so.

My question is what you mean by calculating the DCR path.

Right now, the attached files are uploaded here:

Y:\default\main\**********\REGULATORYAFFAIRS\WORKAREA\root\about_pge\regulatory_affairs\pdfs\schedules

Will I just be creating subfolders under the "schedules" directory?

I mentioned cases where I use this idea. Which is in creating a new DCR that requires a new folder under templatedata/something/else/data/ to use. That is different from the use case you mentioned. However the callserver is the same. It takes a desired path and a desired filename and calculates if the path exists (creates it if it does not) and if the file name exists (returns an error if it does not). You should write something similar so that it is usable for many applications, not just this use case. Now your return can ignore the error (to allow a user to upload a new version of the file)
