i am trying to figure out why the link to the job task will not work properly, can anyone see what is wrong?

for some reason the link errors and seems to not be getting the ID.

i tried:
select="GetId()"
select="//Job/CurrentTask/@jobId"

but neither worked....

However - you should also get in the habbit of including information about what version of TS you are using (including service pack and patch information) and potentially platform too.

The initially posted code with

<xsl:value-of select=GetId()/>

is malformed XML because the attribute value for

select

must be within quotes.

There is a

GetId()

method associated with TeamSite::WFworkflow and/or TeamSite::WFtask objects - in Perl - but you're using XSL, and there isn't any Perl available there OOTB - so that won't help you.

There's also reference to a

getId()

method (notice the lower-case g) in the UICG as part of a JSP program which then requires a CSTask object from which to be run - but again, unless you're embedding java code into your XSLT - this isn't going to help you either.

The

select="//Job/CurrentTask/@jobId"

is probably the best bet assuming that the XML being processed conforms to that syntax - which I believe the OOTB Java class for sending email does - but then you've got a problem - you're trying to use a job id for a viewtaskdetails link ... perhaps you want:
