Getting information from Mediabin system

Hi,

I would like to collect following information from Mediabin system without much coding or just running few queries in the backend.

1. Different types of files present in the system (like .jpg, .png, .doc etc)
2. Total no of files associated with each type

Currently I can think of iterating through each container and looking for image type and then adding up the count for each type. We have millions of images and this method is not at all efficient.

You would have to write a script using the MediaBin API to do this. You can construct a search query and add up the results.
