Propagating Updated Component Drop List

I have a component which has a drop list of colours. I want to change the contents of this drop list, to contain a different selection of colours. It seems the only way of propagating this new list is to overwrite the components on existing pages. Does this sound correct? Or am I being stupid?

I have very limited access to the box, so I was trying to avoid writing a script to help me.

You'll have to do "get latest/update/overwrite" on all instances of that components. If this list changes frequently consider using generators to populate the drop down.
