Issue with data source in DCT

Hi,

I have a requirement to pre populate a text field in the DCT with some value. I want this value to come from a data source.

So I have created a data source class and implemented the SimpleDataSource and returning a string from the execute method.

I am not sure how to mention this data source call from the text field in the DCT. I have tried the same way we do for ListDataSource using like below

< inline command="Datasource:executeComponent Smiley Tongue

opulateString" />
< /text>

This is not populating the value in the text field though Data source class is getting executed everytime on form load.

Please help if some one has idea how to use data source in text fields.

'inline' Tag Command must print valid 'substitution' XML into STDOUT.
So, you can try couple things:

1. Quick and dirty, "Piggy back" DataSource Interface. Print XML into STDOUT right from the 'execute' Method implementation.
Who knows, it may even work providing that DataSource.executeComponent propagates it's STDOUT all the way up.

2. More reliable, create your own DataSource Wrapper package so that you can completely control STDOUT. Run YourDataSource.execute
(whatever the Interface implementation is) from the wrapper, format required XML from the returned String and output into STDOUT.
Call it with something like <inline command="/iw-home/tools/java/bin/java -cp classpath YourPackage.classname"/>
