Generate HTML on save only works when you reopen the dcr?

I am trying to generate a HTML File when the user hits "Save".

I have perl code that runs on a Save:

my $templatePath = $in->param('templatePath');
my $htmlPath = $in->param('htmlPath');
my $iw_home = 'd:/interwoven/teamsite';

When I fill out the DCR for the first time, it does not generate the HTML. But if I close the DCR and reopen it, hit save, it will generate the HTML file.

Does anyone know a workaround so it will create the HTML without closing and opening the DCR?

IMHO, this is not a great approach. Workflow is a perfect place to do this.

That being said, this is your system, not mine. On which save event are you triggering (onSaveDoneshould be the one to use) ? It sounds like the save has not completed yet (which means if you open/change the resulting HTML may not reflect the changes)

I think you are right, I will just generate the HTML at the beginning of the workflow.

We generate our html/xml on the onSaveDone event, but the problem is you need to give the event time to work so we added a javascript alert that says "saving is complete" and that gives it the time needed to generate the html/xml file. Of course, workflow is a better place to do the generation, but our use case is different and prevents us from moving the html/xml generation to the workflow. It does work fine for us, though.
