Generate PHP has leading spaces

Hi Teamplating Gurus,

ENV: TS 671
OS: Linux

I have a funny problem occurring in Teamsite 6.7.1 on Linux. The TPL used to generate PHP adds spaces before the opening of the PHP code in the output PHP file. These new lines and spaces stops the apache directives to overwrite the header info.

Is there a way to stop those newline and blank spaces to be generated before opening the PHP?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you for your reply but the generated file will have spages again after regenerate. I wanted to find out why the extra spaces were generated by the TPL and how can we avoid it

Post the TPL code as an attachment - and maybe you'll get some answers.

this whitespace is what you get for free when using the Templating engine. :-)

It's quite simple. ANY characters in a tpl that are NOT inside a iw-tag will be outputted. Thus, this simple tpl:

[HTML]

your comment

echo "hello world";
?>
[/HTML]

will start with 2 (!) newline character and in php this will ruin any http-headers. So in your case I would do something like this:

[HTML]
# any comments

echo 'hello world';
?>

[/HTML]

See what I mean?

Other than the typo (highlighted above) - you can simplify it even more by leaving out the iw_pt tag altogether:

<? echo 'hello world'; ?>

(I'm assuming this directive works - I haven't tried it) - and I'd put the perl code below any static text that that you want to start out at the top of the generated page:[html]
....[/html]Unless the directive relies on something being set via the perl code.

The other option, which I tend to prefer, is to do the entire PT within an iw_perl block, building up a string (e.g.: $html) and then use iwpt_output($html); after you've finished all your processing.
