Copying Generated Templated Pages

O.K. I am copying Generated Templated pages from one directory to another, but when I try to edit this page, it does not have the extended attribute tied to it. Why is it that I cannot copy the generated page and it keep these attributes. I have already ran into this problem with the DCR's, now I have to run this iwextattr program on every one of the the generated pages, what a pain in the hiny!
Anyone else got a suggestion or help in my case. Please Help me!!!!!!

Yes it is sometimes painful to do this, but I have attached a script that can do it on and entire workarea at a time - I actually got it from some of the Interwoven guys - it might even be available on the website.

Run the script (directions in readme) against a Workarea and it'll save the extended attributes to a file, then run the new command against the new workarea to reset the attributes.

a) copy the files to different named files in the same directory?, or
b) copy the files to samed named files in different directories?, or
c) copy the files to different named files in different directories?

Here is the directory structure I am developing
Copying from /FBU/en/fleetguard
To /FBUJSP/en/fleetguard

I assume you're using "copy" or "cp" to do the copy. Use iwcp (iw-home/bin) instead. It copies ext attrs too.

I have looked for this file, but it is not there. I looked in iw-home/bin, and also /iw-home/custom/bin

Even if you can preserve EAs as you copy your files from one directory to another, you may still need (or want) to run a script to update the EA values. Files generated from DCRs generally have EAs that point back to the DCRs from which they were generated (depending upon how they were generated). If you copy the DCRs and generated files to another directory, these backpointers may be wrong. A copy of a generate file may reference the DCR from which it was originally generated, not its corresponding copy.

Sorry, I failed to notice you're on 4.5.1. iwcp is a 5.5.x CLT. You'll need to use the scripting approach indicated above.

Why are you copying generated files? Why aren't you generating both files with TeamSite Templating? That way they would have the proper Extended Attributes set.

Well say I am copying 700 files. I do not want to pull up Templating GUI for each DCR and Generate a File. I want to copy the existing Generated Files, change the Presentation Template to generate JSP's instead of JHTML. Now I want to run a program called regen.ipl that will regenerate all of the files that have previously been generated. So If these extended attributes are not tied to a DCT, then they will not get converted. Hope this explains a little bit.

Perhaps your program could just call the "iwgen" CLT once, instead of calling "cp" once, "iwextattr" several times, and then "iwregen". Would that work for you?
