callserver issue

Hi All,

I am auto saving a DCR based on the field name inside DCR. But before doing that, I am trying to check to see if a DCR by that name is already existing. If yes, then there is an alert to the user to change the content of that particular field. I am using a Call server to see if the file already exixts in the folder. The problem here is that the CGI script is not getting triggered on the invocation. Can any one help me on this?

It means that you are checking "allowsave" Flag well before your CGI gets executed, quite possibly before it's started.

The CGI is still not getting invoked. Even if I print the values to the file inside the CGI, it is not printing the values. Can you suggest any pointers. If it is synchronous the script would have been executed at some time right?

I went through the other thread you had mentioned. Does it also makes a call server for the solution?

What's your OS, UNIX/Linux or windows? What is your CGI really, standard TS wrapper or Perl Code with the CGI
Extension? Attached Perl code does not contain any shebang. How then do you associate ipl code and .../bin/iwperl?

Pure "setDCRName" sample does not require callServer. It actually makes an asynch call on the background,
note that all components (including Server Side code) are provided by IWOV. Note though that the thread I've
mentioned includes different Scenarios. Some of them require callServer instead of setDCRName

The DCRs are autonamed. It does not warn us. My req. is just to inform the user incase if the dcr with the same name exists.

Reffered to the suggested link and modified my JS code. Now when there is an already existing DCR with the same name, it prompts me. But even if i hit (continue or cancel) it is overriding the existing DCR. I have the onsavevalid event returning either true or false. Can you see where I am going wrong?

with

just want to make sure if it going to the correct path.

Not sure what the issue is. Provided fragment is too big for the casual glance.

It looks a bit convoluted (for example, I would've run checkStatus right from
onSaveValid Handler rather than onSave) but overall I do not see any obvious
problems with it.

Divide and conquer. Remove temporarily everything except required "Does it exist?"
logic, make sure it works and start adding flesh to the code testing along the way

I believe you want to get rid of the onSave event handler and just have the onSaveValid handler - the onSaveValid handler function should always return false, the callServer script (CGI), which should be called from the onSaveValid function should callback to one of two functions:

You also want to make sure that your init() routine checks to see if the DCR is already named when it loads the form and if so, make the field(s) that govern the DCR name readonly.

Excellent, that's what it should do! This tiny exercise showed us that:

a) onSaveValid has been really executed (I was not sure, with the onSave Logic it might not have gotten this far) And
b) If method returns boolean false the Save operation is blocked

Conclusion: you mess up savflg somewhere, not necessarily in fragments you've posted.
To check: restore checkStatus and then right before return:
...
alert(savflg);
alert(typeof(savflg));
return savflg; // Not return (savflg)!;

You must see something like true or false and then boolean. If that's not the case - look where flag is modified.
If it is the case, does it show true/false as you expect?

The handle_saveValid function is returning the value that we set globally 'first' even though it is calling IWDCRInfo.setDCRName(dcrName, checkStatus) before giving a return value.

How do we make handle_saveValid wait until it gets checkstatus() executed?

First of all - don't just call init() - use the onFormInit event handler (see page 13 of the 672 FormsPublisher FormAPI Developer's Guide)

Your checkStatus routine should return a true/false value - depending on whether the DCR already has an established name (existing DCR - true) or needs to get a name and verify it doesn't already exist (new DCR - false). If it returns true, you should perform the save of the DCR, otherwise you need to set the DCR name and verify that it's okay to use that name.

Since your calling checkStatus initially and as part of the callback for setDCRName - you may need to put the actual call for saving the DCR within that function (you seem to be missing code within the confirm() block)

I prefer to separate the functionality, but you may be able to have it combined the way you did - however - in either case - nowhere in your posted code do you actually perform the save - and thus the DCR will not get saved.
