Perl Oracle module

Hi All,

We are trying to make a db connection and query the db using Oracle driver (DBI). It reports the below error.

install_driver(Oracle) failed: Can't load '/iwhome/iw-home/iw-perl/site/lib/auto/DBD/Oracle/Oracle.so' for module DBD:racle: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory at /iwhome/iw-home/iw-perl/lib/DynaLoader.pm line 229.

We tried to install the Oracle driver and got the below error.

The same happened when I tried to compile DBD:racle. I’ve got the following error:

Is this because we were trying to install the 32 bit Perl version module on the 64 bit processor? Can any one help us on this by providing any pointers?

The DB modules, especially the Oracle ones - come with a lot of README files - for a very good reason: They are non-trivial modules to build/install.

I suggest you spend some significant time looking through the README files that are appropriate for your platform and make sure you follow the instructions as closely as possible.

Although they tend to recommend building the module with the exact same compiler and libraries as the Perl binary, you can usually get away without worrying about that too much - but you do have to make sure you have a complete and functional software development environment, which can be non-trivial in itself. If you search through the forums, you should be able to find a number of old threads that deal with the process of building these modules on various different platforms.

Bottom line though: If it doesn't build cleanly, don't expect it to work.
