onItemChange event does not trigger..

I am trying set image preview when an image is selected from media bin. For some reason, the 'onItemChange' event does not trigger. Any suggestions on the fix or alternate approaches is appreciated.

For some reason, the 'onItemChange' event does not trigger...

'onItemChange' fires only when the User modifies Item from the GUI AND changes focus.
It never fires if you modify an Item programmatically
