Pass 'added replicant' as object into a .js function?

I may be backwards in my thinking, but here's what I'm trying to do.

The replicant is a container, and in it is a "Date" field.

When a new replicant is added, I want to set a default date in there.

I'm not sure how to pass in the replicant being added to a function to have it set, though.

Here's my code:

function SetDefaultDate(item){
var dateItem = item.getChildByName("Date");

if(dateItem.getValue() == "")

dateItem.setValue(toFormattedDate(new Date()));
}
return true;

So, what I think I have to do is in the "onReplicantAdded" handler, have the call to "SetDefaultDate" pass in itself to SetDefaultDate.

Only I'm not sure how to get it to 'see' itself (i.e. SetDefaultDate(this))

Am I going about this the wrong way?

Have you tried this ? It is the correct approach, while I have not looked through your code in detail it appears correct. when you use onReplicantAdded, it passes the item that was just added.

I tried passing in (this) as a parameter, but the getChildByName doesn't seem to pick up the child correctly.

That's why I was thinking I was passing in my object wrong (and removed it from the code I initially posted).

The schema is:
/Price_Summaries/Price_Summaries/Price_Summaries/Date

So, when i pass in "/Price_Summaries/Price_Summaries/Price_Summaries/" as the object, then .getChildByDate("Date") should reference the date field, correct?

It *should* but I do not know your DCRs, so I trust you.

Put this code in your function:

Here's my 'test' function to keep it simple:

I verified that this is the correct replication to place the handler on.

Here's the function that is called:

alert ("Test 2");

var children = item.getChildren();

alert (children.length);

for (var i = 0; i < children.length; i++)
{
alert("Child " + children.getName());
}
}

When the form first initializes, I get the alert with "Test 2." But that's all.

Nothing else happens, even when I add more replicants. New Replicants don't give the "test 2" alert either....

In my form initialize code, I have this:

More then just solving this problem, I see now how the .js passes and works with the objects.
