Question on rules engine

Kavitha_Sundaram

How does the rules created in the SitePublisher engine get propogated to the runtime (LiveSite) environment?

- Do they get stored in the database??

In the current version of the product, rules information is stored in iw-home\LiveSite\rules\data directory. They are deployed automatically by PLC WF.

for the existing targeting implementation pre Teamsite 7.0

Rules are stored within Ilog's Teamserver store. As part of deployment if the sitemap or pages depending on rules are deployed then the rules are attached to the deployment.

As part of 7.0 the targeting system is being revamped to make rules defined as standard Teamsite assets.

Just wanted to know that will it (TeamSite & Sitepublisher 7) still be integrated with an external rule engine like Ilog JRules?

Because as of now I was not abe to get much into the "Rule Studio" project as mentioned in SP dev guide. That requires Rule Studio (ILog product) and eclipse plugin for rule studio is also not available for download...

Please share information related to this.

In order to download Rules Studio, you have to be licensed appropriately and you have to contact support. As for your other questions, you'll have to wait until the product is released publicly.

The rules engine in 7.0 will no longer use iLog. We have had too many issues with their support and timely response as well as unneccessarily complex integration. The new rules engine will use XML files to define rules which will be part of teamsite and will benefit from versioning and deployment workflows. The new XML structure is also much easier to understand, implement and debug (debugging was another issue with iLog, there was no easy way to tell what executed and how the result was generated).

Anyhow, stay tuned, 7.0 release is close.

Thanks Alex. This is indeed a good piece of information.
