Hi All,

I have a application running on Livesite using external database and deployed on Live server with Livesite runtime. I want to add a new feature in application that bascailly for external users. I want to external users to add the content let say news, atrtical etc direct through the application and later on should save in the database.

My Questions:-

If the external user adding the content then how the livesite get notifyied that new content recieved.

How the new content interact with the livesite data models(DCT) i..e save in the new content let say "news" and will be saved in news data type.

Suggestions/ideas/questions will be appreciated.

Can anybody also tell me about livesite runtime role on the PROD server or suggest me the document that can explain me about that?

Livesite Runtime works as a production repository when you submit a .page file frome site folder in workarea using OOTB workflow (Publsh Livesite content) it goes to the Livesite Runtime folder. The mechanism of Livesite Runtime is like a Production Server that is works on Tomcat Server. All sites which is deployed through workflow is registered here as different site. When you run the runtime its welcome page shows with regiestered sites drop down.
If the external user submit the content (DCT) then the corresponding page will be updated according to the component and used datum types.

External users are not the Livesite users.. actually they are the registered user within the application. Suppose I open the site http:// www.mycomany.com and here i want let the external registered user to add the content using form with the help of custom apllication code. Now how these conents wud be saved/reviewed in corresponding data type automaticlly.

In a single line its not possible. Because its two different things. For any feature which lies under Teamsite, User should be go through its interface to avail it. An application which is running independently is no more linked with Teamsite because its the end-product of the TS development, So cann't use the features of teamsite/livesite.

So you need to analyze your requirements.

Suppose, i had a DCR... authored 20 items related to a product. Can i have 20 different html components, for which content to be extracted from each item individually?

Also what type of datum types are required for the same?

Also, if the content author updated the content in DCR through a DCT, would that makes an auto-update in the component??

In Livesite .page file is a combination of component and template. There are various datum type for component building and also OOTB components. You can also create your own component accroding to your requirement using java code. There is good example given in LS_DEV_GUIDE as FAQ ENTRY components.

Thats depends on the your requirement. How you want to show your content on the page. If there is some complexity then you need to create own component otherwise there are lots of OOTB components exist in LS. Just customize it.

You need to create a component using DCR Datum Type, This datum type takes the value from a defined DCR (lets say test1.xml) that is static. If this DCR is updated through DCT then the page content automatically updated. But if you want to change the DCR (lets say test2.xml) then you have to first change the component's DCR name and then click on Get Latest Components on the page.
If you want all this happen dynamically then you have to create component using Java and for page updatation click on Get Latest Components.

If you play with FAQ ENTERY example you will find lots of things.

When you say "direct through the application and later on should save in the database", which database do you mean? You mean you need this content to be brought back from the runtime into TeamSite, or reside in your runtime database?

The latter is what the polling and rating components do in LS3.1. They store user-generated data in the LS runtime database. So if your data can stay in the runtime database, then you just need to create your own tables there and create a LS Component (with Java external) to access it, maybe a 'read' component and an 'add' component. So you have a "News List" component that reads your table(s) and displays the news, and a "Submit News" component that lets the user post something and puts it into the table(s).

If you need that content brought into TeamSite, then you can still take the above approach but you would have to do some kind of reverse deploy (opposite of what OpenDeploy does) to move things from the runtime system back into TS. One approach might be a background process that pulls from the runtime database and uses CSSDK to put it into TeamSite.
