javascript error

I have created SitePublisher page. There is login component on this page which takes username and password as parameters and upon validation redirects to different page.
When I provide username and password and click on "login" button, I get javascript error " 'USER.value' is null or not an object"

Whats this error due to ? How to debug this error ?

is this one of the SP OOTB component that is shipped with teamsite?

use the browser script debugger.
