Hi Everyone

We have a requirement to extract the content from WEM 10.5 instance - preferably in a XML format. If anyone has executed a similar requirement in the past, kindly advice on the

1) Best approaches (Eg. direct extraction from DB, using APIs to extract the data etc..)

2) Any out of the box tools that be used in this scenario.

You can use OOTB vgnexport tool. It extracts content as XML and then packages XML in a zip file. All Static files in system are considered binaries and packaged in zip file as well.

I looked at it but it doesn't give a good control while I want to export specific objects and certain metadata for each object type from a folder within WEM. In your experience, do you know if this utility has such features?

It can control objects level filtering to some extent. But it will not provide attribute level control for objects being exported. For that level of control you will need to use CMS JAVA API and write your own custom export tool.
