delete deployed files from target server

Hi,

I am writing a .ipl file for deleting the selected files from the target servers on which they are deployed. So far I have captured the path where the files are deployed on the target servers. I need some pointers on how I can delete the files from these servers.

As I am new to perl any help will be highly appreciated.

Is there a reason you are not using OpenDeploy for this?
Deleting files in Perl is done through

unlink

or potentially something like

File: Smiley Tongue ath::rmtree

- but that aspect of the script would have to be running on the remote server in order to perform the operation, or the directory(ies) where the file(s) live on the remote server would have to be mounted on the local server in such a way as to permit full read/write/execute permissions through the mount point.
Again - OpenDeploy would probably be easier...

I would have used Open deploy for that but the requirement is something like: we should have a customized tab for this in the File menu. when we click on this tab after selecting the files an IPL file is called (attaching the same) which will delete the selected files from teh target servers.

I have retrieved the path where the file is deployed on the target server. but I am stuck up with how can i delete this file now, coz that target server is not on the same VLAN.

In the belo lines i have captured the path of the file on target server and the name of the file:

print OUT "path to delete : $filenamepath \n";
print OUT "file to delete : $filearr[$length-1] \n";

Please help me in this.

Why do poeple buy expensive software and then come up with requirements that are not compatible with the software?

What I'm saying is: this requirement is not in line with the teamsite good practices.

instead of trying to recreate the wheel I'd say work on using your OpenDeploy to do the delete. you could create a menu item that's a perl script that launches some simple deletion workflow (i've done something like that for a custom Move/Rename) that will call OD to do the deletion or you could write your perl to make a deployment call to OD. Either way has to be simpler than what you're attempting to do. I don't think there's anyway for you to delete the files on the target servers without having some service on those target servers that you can call remotely to perform the delete for you. Which would also be another reason to work with OD.

I would have used Open deploy for that but...

But nothing. Use Open Deploy. From your CGI build a List of Files to be removed and execute OD Deployment.

Use "FileList" Deployment. Set doDeletes "On" and use Source Area where these Files do not exist. In these
mode OD Receiver deletes corresponding Target Files. Get OD execution Return code and STDERR/STDOUT,
massage and report back to the user

I agree, we are using Open Deploy and it is working great. A work around might be to use RoboCopy if you can call it from the workflow. You can use the /MIR switch to mirror what you have in staging.
