Using full names in WFM user and reviewer tasks

Hi Folks,

I'm just slowly trying to reproduce some of our WFT functionality in WFM models. In our current WFTs, we display "full" names instead of usernames.

For example, to select an approver we show:

John Smith
Bill Bloggs
Slarty Bartfarst

instead of:

smithj
bloggsb
bartfarsts

In the OOTB WFM models, the OOTB datasources and variables used to create (for example, a list of reviewers) displays usernames only.

I have written a datasource to create a list of users in which I can display their full names in place of usernames, but obviously the workflow fails to instantiate with an error:

com.interwoven.cssdk.access.CSInvalidUserException: Workflow owner "Boss Water" is not a valid user.
(No such user)

I'm a bit stuck now as how to progress...can anyone suggest an approach whereby I can display full names, but then use usernames to create the appropriate tasks. All my experimentation so far is currently based on the OOTB WFM models.

If you're somehow generating a select list - you need to make sure that the value is the userid and the label is the full name.

I have also tried this thing,the datasource you have created is just displaying the Full Name,in you list Full Name is acting as label as well as the value.When you select a Full Name,the workflow take this as its value also which is definetley is not a valid user.That's why you are getting the exception..

Now the solution can be as follows--
Currently In your datasource you are iterating the user and getting its fullname and finally setting that in an Arraylist.Instead of setting the object in an Arraylist,take an HashMap,set the UserName as its value for the key FullName.Then set that HashMap Object to the ArraylIst and return that ArrayList as like



userObjList=new ArrayList();
.....
....
HashMap hmObj=new HashMap();
......
......
Object userCs=iteratorUsers.next();
CSUser user=(CSUser)userCs;
String userName=user.getName();
String userFullName=user.getFullName();
.........
hmObj.put("userFullName","userName");

userObjList.add(user.getName());
.............
..............

return userObjList();

.............

Note:I am trying to test this at my end,so can't say that it will work.

My first discovery: the purpose of the MapDataSource interface is to display a name different to the username. (should read the doco more closely :-) ).

On digging deeper: I just compiled the MapUserPicker.java example as from page 181 of the Interwoven® Workflow Modeler User’s Guide Release 1.0.0.1. The doco from the manual has a comment as follows:

/**
* This method returns Map<String,String> containing names of all the
* TeamSite users. It uses CSClientUtil.java class
* to get the CSClient object from the session string passed by the
* Datasource framework.
* Key contains the user's shortname and value contains the user's
* display name
*/

And the relevant portion of code has something like (showing username, fullname):

Map test = new HashMap();
test.put("rsk1","rshamanth1");
test.put("rsk2",null);
test.put("rsk3","...lots of characters...");
test.put("rsk4","dude");
test.put("rsk4","dude duplicate");
test.put("waterb","Boss Water");
test.put("","");

When submitting using this new datasource, it successfully renders the list box of my reviewer choices showing the "display" name. This is also reflected in the source like:

I endede opening a support ticket but no use. The guy says its a custom requirement and I may have to write some pre-processor command to convert the display name to the user name before the workflow is instantiated. I don't believe its possible and really so weird to get that kind of answer from support team

Not yet. But I do need to manage it somehow if we are going to use WFM workflows as it is a not-negotiable requirement. If I can figure it out, I'll post what I come up with.

Robbo - did anything ever come of this? We're now facing the same requirement.

Sorry, not yet successfully implemented using custom java classes in the WFM (which is probably more about my java skills, than about whether it is possible or not). However, we have been doing it for some time using good ol' WFTs (which I am sad to say, I've gone back too a bit).

I can help there if you're cool with doing it the WFT way?

Funny thing is I'm probably your opposite -- that is, I am a java dev, but this is the first time I've ever worked with workflow. I don't think the tough part of all this is actually working with any classes or anything, but me learning the "workflow" of Workflow, if you will.

I'll be sure to share if I come up with anything mind-shattering.

Alrighty - what I've found to work is to do the following. I'm not sure if this is the "right" or the best way to do it, but it works. This is on 6.7.2 SP1 using WFM 1.0.0.1 build 68006.

In WFM, use the out-of-box datasource "TS Map User Picker" to provide your list of users, then publish the workflow, etc.
Create a custom instantiation screen using the procedures detailed in the documentation (starting pg. 151)
Once you've got the 'cfg' set up for the custom screen, you need to edit some javascript, which is a pain in the tookus to do because of how it gets written by 'iwmodeldct'. You can try using this http://javascript.about.com/library/blformat.htm to make it more readable.
Find the function getOptionValues
Find the conditional statement for datasources, like
```
else if(optionValue.indexOf("$IW_DS(") > 0) {
```

Find the for loop that iterates each one and update part of its contents based on this code:


var dsOptionLabel = dsOptions.text;    
var dsOptionValue = dsOptions.value;
if(dsOptionValue.length > 1) {                   
newOptions[newOptions.length] = new Option(dsOptionLabel, prefix + dsOptionValue, false, false);                   
}

What you are doing is updating the script to use the text for the Option element AND the value for the Option element, instead of just the text

For anyone reading this, please please please read the documentation for WFM and make sure you understand basic javascript. You can't just cut and paste what I've written down here and expect it to work perfectly in your implementation. As always, your mileage may vary.

Great. The process (both the one I tried to document and the process from IW itself) isn't intuitive at all, but I guess it's one of those things where once you understand it then it makes perfect sense Smiley Happy
