Can LiveSite work or integrate with custom web applications? For example, in a site can LiveSite be used for certain functionality while the rest is handled by the custom web application such as registration, integration with back end data sources?

You must merge the LiveSite tag library and all its dependencies and configuration into your Web application and be able to deploy LiveSite pages to its root.

You don't need the LiveSite runtime to use it, you just have to install the taglib jars into your existing app.

The only catch is that there are a lot of dependent jars, and if you use different versions of the same open-source jars in your app already, you have to worry about version compatibility.

I like to confirm one thing, as of my knowledge, .pages will be rendered by the Livesite Runtime and display it to the end user.

If there is no livesite runtime, how the .pages will be displayed.

The taglib 'implements' rendering of .pages with the LS tags.

if you want to run mixed mode (serving jsp and .page) then you need to install the runtime or use the livesite.war (i believe it's part of the ear for was wl installations).
