What exactly are you trying to do ?

nbwoven

Are you referring to the iPlanet web, portal or the LDAP Server ?

iPlanet application server[web, portal] and would serve/preview any content authored/edited in the TS672 WCM Environment.

Heh. I would not do anything with iplanet given how old the software would be. iplanet, the company was actually my first TeamSite gig.

Anyway, the iplanet webserver could (can?) be used as the customer webserver for the TeamSite GUI. Sun Webserver 7 would be the modern day replacement for an iplanet webserver. I do not think there is "official" support to use WS7 as a customer webserver but it might work with the old NSAPI plugin (iwrewrite.nsapi.*.so) to help with some of the docroot re-writes. As an alternative, webserver 7 supports a robust conditional syntax (similar to mod_rewrite) so you might be able to hack in support that way.

Iplanet in our environment is for web server..but question is when we have Teamsite apache web deamon then why we need separate Web application server.

The TeamSite apache (iwwebd) server is solely for the purpose of rendering the TeamSite UI - not for rendering the content for preview.
The same is true with the TeamSite tomcat (servletd) server - it is not intended for use in rendering customer content.
If you do all your previewing by deploying the content to a remote server (a simulation of your production environment) then it is possible to not bother with a "customer web server" on the TS server - but otherwise, you need it for TeamSite's in-context preview.
