Retrieve selected options (values) from a saved DCR item

Hi all,
I can use item.getOptions()[item.getValue()].value to get the selected value from a saved DCR. But how can i get an array() if multiple values was selected? It seems doesn't work.
additional, Thread http://devnet.interwoven.com/forums_vb/showthread.php?t=30590&forumid=13&highlight=options say iw doesn/t support this.

is there any other method to implement this?

Search for getValue() function in the FormAPI manual. It returns the array of numbers of selected indices (zero-based) for multiple select and
checkbox items.

Additionally, you say it doesn't seem to work, what have you tried and what was the result?

Hi, my situation is

The options-#1# of one dropdown list item are retrieved from database.
So when i open an existing DCR, i need to get the values-#2#(selected="t") of this item. Then check #1# one by one, if value belongs to #2#, then selected="t". At last, using item.setOptions().

But currently, i find can not get #2# by using item.getValue(), while for single select, it works.

it sounds like you have selected value, then the rest of the data is stored somewhere else (DB). you might want to use callServer(). when opening a DCR, get the selected value, send it to some script in the backup to repopulate the list.

yes, currently, what you mentioned is how i implement it. but the problem is can not get the selected values. so strange

Perhaps your code is retrieving the values from the DB before checking to see if there are any existing values already stored in the DCR?

When you open the existing DCR, since the list now contains only the selected values(as you mentioned), you need to get all the values now(not all the selected ones because as I guess, there won't be any avlues that will show as selected, having focus on them I mean). For getting all the values, exploit the getOptions() method which returns all possible values and not just the selected ones. Maybe you can try this out:

var arr = new Array();
arr = IWItem.getOptions ();

for(int i=0; i<arr.length; i++)
{
 alert("Value "+i+"="+IWItem.getOptions ().value);
}

Now execute your data fetching code(from DB) after you have got these values and stored them in an array maybe.

One more thing is:
If your use item.getValue() for a multiselect, you get an array of selected indices, so the proper usage of the statement would be something like this:

IWItem.getOptions ()[item.getValue()[0]].value);

because item.getValue() is itself an array now. Note the indices in bold.

Hi all,
After i test, I find if i use for loop, then return null.
i open a saved dcr, item4 is a multiple select item. When open it, i need to get all the selected option values of this item. So i write js something like,
