Autogeneration of number on the DCT

Hi All,
I m using Teamsite 6.7.2 version.
I need to populate 5 digit no on the field of DCT and this number should be in sequence for all the DCRS.
Accept the Database approach,Do we have any other solution for doing it?

DB approach is probably going to be your best, reliable, easiest option. Any other option IMHO will be either unreliable or quite complicated.

It may be an option but you may run into concurrency issues.

Patel is spot on. Sure, you can use the File. The problem is a concurrent usage of this shared resource.
The common solution to this sort of issues is to either

a) Code a dedicated process to maintain shared persistent resource (even if that resource is just a number stored in some File!)
and queue requests to this Process OR

b) Code some sort of a Mutex. In the case like yours it can be as simple as obtaining an exclusive Lock on the File, modifying
the number and Un-Locking it. Catch locking Failure (some other process has Lock) and re-try in some predefined interval etc.

Get a DB

If that is not possible, then I would place a file inside TS, when it needs to be updated, use a lock, open and change and then remove the lock. If the file is locked, wait. There are some serious issues trying to implement this (somehow it gets locked and never unlocked, permissions and access rights, etc), but it should work

As the actual question has already been responded to, I figured I'd provide a tip on using the correct English words. The word you want here is Except. They sound alike, but have distinctly different meanings.

Alternatively, you could rephrase the question to make it even clearer:

"Is there any solution for doing this other than using the database approach?"

(This is not meant to be a snide post, I'm assuming English is not your first language. If it is your first language you should consider reading a dictionary [that was a snide comment])

Sadly reminiscent of college why I would get letters back (that I wrote to my Grandmother - a former English professor) with my grammar and spelling corrected. Needless to say I did not write often. :-)
