Issue with filters

We have a requirement to deploy files to multiple servers using directory and edition comparison deployment. Files needs to be deployed to target servers based on the folders under the branch. We have multiple definitions to deploy to multiple servers. We have tried using the include patterns (includePattern) but that didn’t work as it filtering out the files but not the directories.

Now we are using the “includePath” filters on source tag of each definition. Then deployment is working fine, but it is deploying all the files under the folder, but we want to prevent some file types (ex: .cfg ) being deployed. As we are using the “includePath” it is not possible to mix any other filter.

Is there any way we can achieve this, we have tried using the target side filters but didn’t help.

Any pointers on this would be appreciated.

Please see the below post which actually says what issue we were facing earlier and as suggested by Smitty we have used includePath rather than includePattern which has solved the mentioned problem but because we have removed includePattern with which we were filtering everything except .dcr can not be used.

< includePattern regex=\"[/global|global]\/(.*)\/(.*\\.dcr)\" / >

This was able to filter out any file except .dcr but now we are using the following:

which is actually working fine and solved the issue mentioned in the above mentioned post.

But can anyone help us figuring out how both the issues can be addressed together? Means how can I now filter out all the files (.tpl, .cfg etc) and deploy only .dcr

In general what you are asking for simply can not be done. You can not have it both ways.

However, in every particular case there are details that often allow to achieve what's needed even if there is no
"generic" solution. For example, in your case you may want to consider "Exclusion with Exceptions" instead of the Path
Inclusions. Something like the following *may* work if you can find proper subPath(es) to exclude[html]

a List of assets to be deployed and uses it in the FileList Deployment mode

Filelist deployments will always be much more flexible than include/exclude lists.

Thanks for the reply. There is no issue in doing file list deployment, there anyway I do not include .cfg and .tpl files. But when it comes to edition comparison and directory comparison then the issue occurs.

There is no issue in doing file list deployment...

That's the whole point. If OTB comparison mechanisms are not sufficient build a List instead of standard Edition/Directories
comparison and implement any filtering logic that you are able to code.

If you only want to deploy DCRs - then perhaps you should use:

<includePath subPath="global/data"/>

and that way you shouldn't be deploying any *.cfg files - right?
