Add replicant: Suppress + button or add js to it?

So in order to meet a clients functional requirement, I was forced to create a custom button and then add ItemHandler code to it:

Now the client says: "Hey, it's confusing having the [+] button because it doesn't work the same. Can you either have the [+] button work the same as the custom button or else hide it?"

I've had no problem adding ItemHandlers to custom objects, but is it possible to add it to a 'built in' object like a replicant [+] button?

Perhaps I'm missing some context - but have you tried looking at onReplicantAdded event handlers to call your custom function instead of a custom button?

When I then click the [+], I get a stack over flow error because the "add_price_summary_button" function gets called a ton of times. I figured that it wasn't supposed to work that way or something.

Also, it's not a loop inside the function. I put an alert at the top of the function and it gets called a ton of times.

OnReplicantAdded event works just fine - I have used it so many times. I am sure the problem is somewhere else. Maybe you should post your DCT along with any JS files.

That's because your code adds a Replicant. Think about it. On press of the "+" a Replicant is added.
That fires "onReplicantAdded" Event. You intercept it and create another Replicant, just like you do
from the custom button. That fires "onReplicantAdded" Event. You intercept it and... you've got the picture.

Try onReplicantBeforeAdd instead, create a replicant yourself and return "false" so that the cycle
stops there. Alternatively, you can perhaps create containers with the min/max 1 so that the only way
to do it would be through Custom Button, etc

I've gotten close, but not quite there.

I've tried this a few different ways, and no matter how i try it (onReplicantAdd, onReplicantBeforeAdd) I can't stop the infinite loop.

down in the function where I add the replicant I have this:

But it still loops.

I tried this, but it won't let me add a new one if the max is 1.

I was hoping there'd be a simpler way to just disable the [+] button for a replicant.

I'm not sure what you are doing and how you are doing it but in general
it's hard to make a correct processing of the Event with the Code that
causing this very Event.

If I were you I would start with the code that simply returns unconditional "false" on
beforeAdd Event. Half of the problem solved, "+" disabled.

Then Add your own button + functionality. See if it works as is. If "block +" function
interferes, make it a little smarter so that it "knows" it's been called as a result of
your code activity and returns "true", etc
